Rupa Ray

Registered Social Worker (MSW RSW)

Are you feeling overwhelmed, exhausted, or stuck in patterns that are hard to break? Are you dealing with anxiety, depression, trauma, or the emotional toll of chronic illness, pain, or insomnia? Are you struggling with navigating relationship challenges, family stress, or the impact of past experiences such as domestic violence and adverse childhood experiences? It can feel isolating—like others don’t fully understand. You want relief, clarity, and a sense of control over your life again. You want to feel heard, supported, and equipped with tools that actually work. You want to reclaim happiness in your life.

Starting therapy can feel vulnerable, and it’s important that you feel safe, respected, and understood from the very beginning. In our sessions, you can expect: a non-judgmental and supportive environment, validation of your experiences, emotional safety and a collaborative approach, where we move at a pace that feels right for you. I have advanced training in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). I am passionate about providing trauma informed care that is culturally sensitive and anti-oppressive.

Rupa offers mental health therapy to children (10+), youth, adults, seniors, couples and families.

Rupa is honoured to be an ally of the BIPOC, 2SLGBTQIAP and Indigenous communities.

Experience

Rupa has specialized experience supporting clients with chronic illness, chronic pain and insomnia. She understands the impact that chronic conditions can have on mental health, and she strives to ensure her clients feel validated and supported with strategies to manage their concerns in healthy ways. Rupa is also experienced supporting caregivers and health professionals who work with this population.

Rupa also has extensive experience supporting some of Edmonton's most diverse and vulnerable communities, including recent immigrants, refugees and survivors of domestic violence. She worked as a family counsellor at Catholic Social Services and as a mental health therapist for Alberta Health Services (Recovery Alberta). Rupa uses an evidence-based, person-centred, and trauma informed approach with her clients. Rupa helps her clients to recognize their own strength and resilience while supporting them in reaching their goals. Rupa is passionate about helping individuals to reclaim self-reliance and self-compassion, as two important components of resilience.

About

Outside of work, Rupa enjoys reading, cooking, traveling and spending her time surrounded by family. She believes in giving back to her community and passing down cultural teaching by teaching classical Indian dance to children.

Natalie is fantastic! She listens to what I need and has great pressure for deep tissue in those stubborn spots. She keeps the conversation light and takes her cues from me when I’m needing the quiet.
