Nicole McLennan

Clinical Intern - BA MC (IP) - Starting September 2026

Nicole is pursuing a Master of Counselling Degree at Athabasca University. Nicole has an extensive background in psychology, disability and student services, and psychological referral and care coordination. Nicole's empathetic and soft spoken approach puts her clients at ease, and helps them feel safe and supported.

Is stress, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, grief, health issues or life changes causing you to feel stuck? I strive to provide a space to better understand your experiences, strengthen self-awareness, and develop practical tools for navigating life's challenges. Using a trauma-informed, client-centred approach, I'll work with you to build on your strengths, foster resilience, and support meaningful change at a pace that feels right for you.

I provide mental health therapy for individual children (6+), youth, adults, seniors, couples and families.

I am honoured to be an ally of the BIPOC, 2SLGBTQIAP, and Indigenous communities. My pronouns are she/her/hers.

I offer mental health therapy sessions in-person and via telehealth.

My sessions are offered at a reduced rate of $20-65/session based on a “pay what you can” model while completing my Clinical Internship under the supervision of Heather Andrew, MSW RCSW.

If you require sliding scale fees, please set up a free 15 minute phone consultation.

Experience

Before pursuing her Master of Counselling Degree, Nicole spent several years working as an Accessibility Advisor and an Outreach Advisor & Support Specialist at the University of Alberta. In these roles, she gained significant experience in supporting students with diverse needs in accessing accommodations and supports. Nicole worked collaboratively with multidisciplinary services to advocate for her clients, and guide them in navigating services.

Whilst completing her Masters studies, Nicole continues to work for the Workers Compensation Board as a Psychology Expeditor. In this role, she facilitates timely access to counselling services for clients that have experienced a workplace injury. This role has honed her skills in efficiently and effectively assessing clients needs to provide appropriate referrals, and in collaborative communication with clients, clinicians and internal teams to support a smooth and successful referral process.

Nicole is very knowledgeable and experienced in providing support for individuals with disabilities. She has also worked as a Disability Services Practitioner at Chrysalis - An Alberta Society for Citizens with Disabilities. In this role, Nicole supported individuals with disabilities in community participation and personal development activities, offered behavioural support strategies, facilitated wellness programs, and collaborated with families and service teams to support client goals and well-being.

All of these experiences have guided and supported Nicole as she pursues her goal of becoming a mental health therapist. Her mission is to offer client centred, trauma-informed, anti-oppressive services that are affordable and accessible.
